Kwartnik - bishop of Wrocław Jan III. Romka
Dating : 1292-1301
Silesian silver coins minted between 1290 and 1330 are referred to as "kwartnik". Their minting began ten years before the Prague groschen and they are the first heavier silver groschen coins minted in Central Europe.
On the obverse it represents a head with stars on the edge, on the reverse a bishop's mitre, i.e. an infuli. The coin is very rare. (determination: Mgr. Ilona Matejko-Peterka, Ph.D.)
In the collection of the Silesian Museum there is also kwartnik of Prince Bolko I the Strict (1252-1256-1301) and kwartnik of Bishop Henry of Wierzbna (1302-1319).
