7,62 x 38 mm R Nagant – cartridge for the Nagant service revolver of the Russian army, introduced in 1895. It remained in the Red Army's arsenal until 1930, but continued to be very popular and used during World War II and later for sporting purposes. The "R" in the cartridge's name does not mean Russian, but rimmed. The cartridge case discovered by SZM is stamped "38 44".
